Our Story
It was a February night in 2011 and Michelle and Rob went to a hockey game (go Panthers!) with a group of friends. Sitting in between them was their mutual friend Kim. As the game progressed, Rob had convinced her to switch seats with him so he could sit next to Michelle. The next day, they both texted Kim asking her if she would set them up together and that night they met up at the ice skating rink where Rob and Kim worked. They exchanged numbers and the next weekend went on a double date with Kim and her at-the-time boyfriend to the movies to see Just Go With It. The week after, Rob showed up at Michelle’s high school production of Suessical with flowers and asked her to be his girlfriend. The couple stayed together through long distance for the next 5 years until Michelle graduated from college in December 2016. Right after, they moved into their first apartment together in Downtown Orlando.
Engagement
Fast forward to January 2019, Rob had just moved to Seattle for a 6 month career experience with Apple Corporate while Michelle stayed in Orlando. In February, for their 8 year anniversary, Michelle flew out to Seattle to visit. When she got there, the two drove up to Whistler, Canada for a weekend at Whistler Blackcomb Mountain. They stayed at this beautiful resort right at the base of the mountain and spent the weekend tubing, skiing, snowboarding and strolling through the adorable village. On the last day of their trip, Rob planned a hike in the snow around Lost Lake. At the end of the trail, they arrived at the lake, which was completely frozen over. Rob suggested they set up the camera to take a picture. As he was setting it up, a woman approached them and asked if they would like her to take their picture. Michelle (clueless) said “no thanks, we’re good!” but Rob immediately jumped in, saying “no, she can take our picture!” So the two walked out onto the frozen lake and the woman took their picture. When they were done, Michelle began to walk back, but Rob quickly stopped her by saying “wait, one more.” She turned back around to see him on one knee, holding a diamond ring, asking her to marry him. The woman was a photographer Rob had hired to capture the beautiful moment. She then took the couple around the trail again, taking the most amazing engagement photos in the snow.
